Harry Bassett Cardwell, Jr. 83, of 412 Pinedale Dr. died Sunday Jan. 3, 2010 at Annie Penn Hospital. He had lived at Carolina House for the past 5 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Huggins and Dr. Ron Boswell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery.
A native of Rockingham Co, he was a son of the late Harry Bassett and Maie French Cardwell and had lived in Reidsville most of his life. Harry was a member of the 1944 Reidsville High School state championship football team and a graduate of High Point College, where he was the captain of the tennis team. He taught school at Wentworth and in Eden for 5 years, and he had worked as a sales representative for several companies before retiring from Wilco, Inc. of Danville, VA. A US Army Veteran of WWII where he served in the Phillipines, he was a member of First Baptist Church, and a former member and past president of the Reidsville Lions Club. Harry was an accomplished soloist at many churches in the area.

Son: Harry Bassett “Chip” Cardwell, III and wife, Pattie, of Eden, N.C.
Daughter: Mary Laverne “Bunny” Cardwell Crabtree and husband, Travis, of Pike Road, Ala.
Sister: Dorothy C. Setliff of Little Rock, Ark.
Grandsons: Harry Bassett Cardwell IV and his wife, Sarah, of Summerfield, N.C.
Patrick Ivan Cardwell of Eden, N.C.
The family will see friends from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Citty Funeral Home and at other times, they will be at the residence.
