Mary Ann Satterwhite Cottrell, age 91, died Friday, January 12, 2018. Born February 18, 1926, in Granville County, NC, she was the daughter of Thomas Andrew and Minnie Greene Satterwhite. In 1944 Mrs. Cottrell graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, which prepared her for a 25 year career as a dedicated teacher. Even today former students comment that she was the best teacher they ever had. Throughout her life in Reidsville she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Cottrell was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Stanley Theodore Cottrell, a decorated disabled veteran of WWII. As he faced increasingly difficult health issues, she faithfully remained by his side advocating for his care. She was also preceded in death by her brother, RT Satterwhite. Surviving are daughter, Pat Apple and husband Tommy, of Reidsville; two sons, Ted Cottrell of Raleigh; Cecil Cottrell and wife Teresa of Reidsville; seven grandchildren whom she dearly loved and two precious great grandchildren. The family greatly appreciates the loving attention given to their mother by Nancy Butler, a former student and long time friend, and the exceptional care provided for their mother by North Pointe of Archdale and Hospice of Randolph County. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Reidsville. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rockingham Council of Bible Education, PO Box 91, Reidsville, NC 27323 or Mount Jubilee Ministries, PO Box 81, Reidsville, NC, 27323. Our deepest condolences to the family. When our loved ones fall asleep in death, words alone cannot ease the pain of our loss. Our loving God Jehovah understands how we feel and he comforts us by means of his word the Bible. Psalm 147:3 reads He (God) heals the brokenhearted; He binds up their wounds. We can also find comfort from Jesus words at John 5:28-29 “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”. May these scriptures bring comfort and calmness of heart to you during the difficult days ahead.
